Indigenous Health

Sunny Street acknowledges the Traditional Owners of this country, Gubbi Gubbi people of the Sunshine Coast and surrounding regions. We pay our respect to the Elders past, present and emerging.

Although Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people represent 4.6% of the Queensland population, Sunny Street continue to see 2.5 times that amount of Indigenous people in our service – 11 – 15% of our patrons identify as Indigenous. Sunny Street is contracted by the Aboriginal Health Service North Coast Aboriginal Corporation for Community Controlled Health (NCACCH), to provide care for Indigenous people. We also link in with Queensland Health to provide vital health services for those leaving the hospital system. Gender statistics within the service are similar, with 45% of males and 39% of females accessing the service in 2022.

The Sunny Street outreach and medical centre are culturally safe places for Indigenous people to come yarn and connect with Sunny Streeters.
